Bott sets Plano

Plano junior Brook Bott hit his
18th career homer to set a school record as the Reapers topped Dwight, 16-6,
Thursday in an Interstate Eight baseball game. Bott, who broke the record held
by Cilo Corral (2001), also drove in five runs and extended his school-record
hitting streak to 18 games.
Marmion Academy 6, St. Edward 2
— Greg Voirin had two doubles to pace the Cadets. Austen Siwiec struck
out 11 in six innings.
Newark 17-16, Cornerstone Christian 2-3
— Kurt Anderson struck out 10 to win the opener.
Waubonsie Valley 6, Larkin 5 —
Joe Price drove in the game-winner with an infield hit in the bottom of the
seventh inning to lead the Warriors (11-10, 7-8 UEC).

At Coal City, the Fighting Irish fell to 9-2 in the Interstate Eight Conference after a road loss to Coal City.
"It was a big conference game and we gave them nine runs the first three innings, so the damage was done," Seneca coach Kirk Houchin said. "Alex Spicer came on in relief and did a great job."

At Plano, the Reapers moved to 4-6 in the I-8 with a victory over Dwight.
Plano scored five runs apiece in the bottom of the first and fourth innings, before adding another fourth in the bottom of the fifth.
Brook Bott (home run, double, five RBI, two runs) and Will Brown (double) had two hits to lead the Reapers' (12-15, 4-6) offense. Shawn Gwilt (two runs) tripled and Brent Day (two RBI, three runs) doubled. Nick Preston picked up the win on the mound.
Sandwich 11, Wilmington 7
At Sandwich, the Indians upped their I-8 mark to 5-6 with a victory over Wilmington.
Sandwich led 8-7, before breaking the game open with a three-run bottom of the fifth inning.
John Hutchison (three RBI, three runs) and Alan Ritchie (double, three RBI) had three hits each to lead the Indians' (8-15, 5-6) offense. Winning pitcher T.C. Blanford (10 strikeouts), Lance Futrell (double), Brendan Ament (double) and Luke Thompson (triple) all added two hits.
Serena 7, Aurora Christian 5
At Aurora, the Huskers improved to 18-5 on the season after a nonconference road victory over Aurora Christian.
"We didn't hit the ball that well," Serena coach Chad Baker said. "(Dallas) Kempiak really bore down after the opening inning."
Winning pitcher Kempiak and Kyle Mason had two hits apiece to lead the Huskers' offense. Cooper Westvig plated the two go ahead runs.
Newark 17-16, Cornerstone Christian 2-3
At Newark, the Norseman moved to 19-5 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Cornerstone Christian.
In the opener, Mitch Dunlap went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI to lead the Newark offense. Kyle Janssen (triple, double, three RBI, three runs) and winning pitcher Kurt Anderson (triple, two RBI, two runs) added two hits apiece.
In game two, Ryan Shorkey went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs to lead the Norsemen offense. Zach Hartman had two hits. Patrick Quantock picked up the win on the mound.
Somonauk 6, IMSA 1
At Aurora, the Bobcats posted a nonconference road win over Illinois Math and Science Academy.
The home team tallied a run in the bottom of the second inning, before Somonauk scored all six of its runs in the top of the fourth.
"The whole team contributed to this win," Bobcats coach Chuck Hauser said. "It was nice to see us bounce back after a tough loss last night (Wednesday versus Marquette)."
Chris Giesholt (double) and Dale Paull (triple, double) had two hits each to lead the Somonauk offense. Josh Samson added a double. Joe Wathen was credited with the victory on the mound.
