"A" Ball 2nd Round

Marseilles-7, Somonauk #3-0 in a game played at Milton Pope School! Couldn't get anything going off pitcher Brandon Buck and a great Marseilles defense. We tried to play small ball, but it just wasn't our night!!Had too many runners thrown out on the base paths and left too many on base as well. Thanks to coach Nugent for a fine night of baseball at a nice little field out in the country at MPES.  Best of luck in the semis Bisons!!! Coach Lidinsky

Highlights
I CAN'T THINK OF A GAME WHERE WE'VE LOST 10 - 1 WHERE
I HAVE BEEN ANY MORE PROUD OF A BUNCH OF BOYS.

WE ONLY HAD 8 PLAYERS, NONE OF WHICH WERE CATCHERS.
SO EVERYONE GOT TO TRY OUT A NEW POSITION. MITCH
PRENTICE STEPPED UP AND INTO THE CATCHING EQUIPMENT,
HE DID A WONDERFUL JOB. NIC SIEMERS PLAYED 1ST BASE
COVERING BOTH 1ST AND 2ND AT TIMES, HE DID A WONDERFUL
JOB. SHANE MCCANNON WAS THE SHORTSTOP/2ND BASEMAN
SWITCHING FROM SIDE TO SIDE, HE DID A WONDERFUL JOB.
ZAC LILJA PLAYED 3RD/SS AND WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE
LEAVING A NICE CHUNK OF HIMSELF ON THE FIELD, HE DID A
WONDERFUL JOB. JUSTIN WILEY WAS P/2ND/3RD, WHEREVER
HE HAD TO BE, IT'S SO HARD TO KEEP YOUR COOL WHEN
THINGS AREN'T HAPPENING THE WAY THEY COULD, HE DID A
WONDERFUL JOB AND MY OUTFIELD TRIED VERY HARD WITH
CATCHES FROM KASPER AND PENMAN.

AS HARD AS THEY TRIED IT WASN'T ENOUGH, PLANO PLAYED
WELL THROUGHOUT. I APPLAUD PLANO'S BOYS FOR BEING
GREAT SPORTSMAN AND FOR PLAYING TOUGH AND THEIR COACH
FOR BEING A CLASS ACT AND UNDERSTANDING THAT THERE IS
MORE TO PLAYING BASEBALL THAN POUNDING THE OTHER TEAM
INTO THE GROUND. WE WISH THEM THE BEST IN THE
CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND.

RUNNERS MAY ADVANCE ON A FOUL TIP.

RULE:
A FOUL TIP is a batted ball that goes sharp and direct
from the bat to the catcher’s hands and is legally
caught. It is not a foul tip unless caught and any
foul tip that is caught is a strike, and the ball is
in play. It is not a catch if it is a rebound, unless
the ball has first touched the catcher’s glove or
hand.

PITCHERS:

PAW PAW – SIEMERS 6

HINKLEY - #2 JACOB 2, #8 NICK 2, #4 LUKE 1

IT WAS A VERY WELL PLAYED GAME BY BOTH TEAMS. HINKLEY HAD A ROUGH TIME FINDING THE PLATE AT TIMES BUT PLAYED A GREAT DEFENSIVE GAME AND CAN HIT THE BALL A TON. #10 HAD A NICE TRIPLE AND #1 JESSE HAD A LONG SHOT TO RIGHT WHICH KIDD CAUGHT.

SIEMERS HAD A GEM OF A GAME PITCHING OUT OF DEEP TROUBLE TWICE. IT WAS TRULY AN ALLSTAR EFFORT. WHICH LEAVES ME WITH A PROBLEM, HOW TO PICK THREE ALL STARS FROM 4-5 DESERVING CANDIDATES.

FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR MY GOAL WAS TO SEND ONE PITCHER AND TWO FIELDERS, UNFORTUNATELY I WAS BLESSED WITH THREE REALLY GOOD PITCHERS, TWO OF WHICH WERE NECK AND NECK FOR THE NUMBER ONE SPOT. AFTER TONIGHTS EFFORT FROM SIEMERS I HAD TO ADD THOSE STATS TO THE MIX FOR A DECISION.

HERE IS HOW IT BROKE DOWN:

AS YOU CAN SEE BOTH ARE GREAT PITCHERS. SIEMERS HAS WILEY ON BOTH STRIKEOUTS AND WALKS PER INNING, WHILE WILEY HAS THE UPPER HAND IN THE WIN/LOSS COLUMN. I WENT TO STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE, WHO PITCHED AGAINST THE TOUGHER COMPETITION, IT TIPPED THE SCALES FOR WILEY.

THAT WAS FOLLOWED BY AVERAGES OF .294, .270, .267 AND .094. SINCE WILEY WAS ALREADY IN FOR PITCHING LILJA AND PRENTICE ARE IN FOR FIELDING / BATTING. I DID NOT COUNT FIELDING ERRORS, WE ALL MADE THEM AND GREAT PLAYS WERE ALSO MADE BY ALL. WE WOULD NOT BE WHERE WE ARE TODAY WITHOUT THE GREAT PITCHING OF NIC SIEMERS, THE CATCHING OF AUSTIN SAFRANEK, THE WAY NIC DODARO STEPPED UP WHEN AUSTIN WENT ON VACATION, THE LEAD OFF MAN MCCANNON OR THE TEAM PLAY BY PENMAN, KIDD AND KASPER. WE WIN AS A TEAM; LOOSE AS A TEAM AND UFORTUNATELY I CAN ONLY PICK THREE FOR THE ALL STARS. THEY ARE:

BOTH WILEY AND SIEMERS WERE THROWING STRIKES. PLANO

Make up game from Sat. June 2

Indian Creek  6

Somonauk  10

IC Pitchers:

Jake 6 innings

Noah 1 inning

Highlights

This was a very exciting and back and forth game. IC came out swinging with over the fence home runs by both Jake and Nick, but despite Jake hard throwing from the mound, Somonauk battled back to tie the score and from there, it was back and forth until the 6 th inning. IC had a 1 run lead, but could not close it out, allowing Somonauk to score 3 times and take a 2 point lead into the bottom of the 6 th . IC was not about to give up, they did what they needed to do and got a couple base runners, scored one and the other sat on second base. We needed 1 to tie and 2 to win. Anthony came up and tagged the ball. It went deep into center field, bounced and hit the fence. It just missed a walk off by a matter of inches. Never the less, the tieing run scored and Anthony was on second. A pass ball brought him to third and now there was 2 outs. We were looking for any thing, a pass ball, a bloop single, a miss throw, we didn’t care. Anthony was ready to score and he didn’t care how, he was ready to risk it. Somonauk regained their composure and ended the inning with a huge strike out. Anthony was left on third. The game was tied and we were going into extra innings. With 6 innings pitched, Jake had to give up the ball to a very confident Noah. We pitched very well, but Somonauk is an awesome team and extremely well coached. They were on a mission, and with a couple base runners, Somonauk’s big hitter was up to bat. He stared down Noah and then the pitch came. He latterly crushed that ball over the fence and Somonauk’s dug out went crazy. Congratulations to that boy, very good hit and a memory that will stay with us all for a very long time. IC had another at bat, but Somonauk came out untouchable and struck out the side. My hats off to the Somonauk team and their coaching staff. It was a very fun game and your boys showed a lot of class and sportsmanship. Good luck in the tournament. Another tough loss for IC, but we are getting better every game and look out for us next year. Thanks.

Malta has very nice parents, players and coaches. These type of people make America great! They continue to play with pride even though they are the youngest team in the league. The experience they are gaining at this young age will make them a tough team when they play in a year or two. Another beautiful evening for a ball game. Thanks Jeff!

In a game rescheduled from 6/2/07..........

Somonauk #3 defeats Indian Creek 10-6 in 7 innings. Joey Palaciewicz hit a 3 run homer in the top of the 7th to put Somonauk #3 up by four. Palaciewicz (1IP) also came on in relief of starter Mitch Kessler (6IP) in the 7th to record the win striking out all three IC batters he faced!!!

Great job by IC starter #10 Jake (6IP) who had us on the ropes all game!!!!  He also crushed a huge homer in the first to put IC on top early. Eight hitter  #3 Nick also homered for IC in the 2nd!!!! Fine job by Coach Jamie Duetsch and crew. His team is MUCH better than their record indicates. Thanks for an enjoyable evening of VERY competitive baseball!!!!

"A" Ball League
Friday, June 15

Earlville 2
Plano 5

Pitchers
Earlville
Andrew Walsh 2 innings

Plano
Cory Dryden 3 innings
Rilando Nunez 3 innings

Plano pitching was the key to this victory. The two Plano hurlers threw a very nice
ballgame. They would only allow 1 hit to the the earlville crew, that being a triple by Brady
Saylor scoring the two lone runs for Earlville. Despite their offensive struggles, Earlville did not let down
on the defensive end. Kyle Hatton played a very solid shortstop and Danny Pfaff turned in a
web-gem at third base to end an inning. Chase Johnson threw out 4 Plano runners trying to steal.
Earlville pitching was also very consistent also with Andrew Walsh and Hyiatt Duffey
learning to become better pitchers. I am very proud of the improvement the kids have made and
I admire the fact that there is no quit in them whatsoever. I tip my hat to Bryan's crew. This is a
very good ball team and should be proud of their accomplishments. Good Luck Plano.

In the regularly scheduled game on 6/16, Som. #3 downed the host Bulldogs 4-3 in a nailbiter that came down to the last hitter!!! Pitchers Kessler 5IP, Palaciewicz 1IP.

Thanks to coach Prentice and crew for a two great games. His kids are very talented!!! We were very fortunate to be victorious!!!!

PITCHERS:
PAW PAW - 3
SOMONAUK - 4
Highlights
THIS GAME WAS MORE LIKE A BALL GAME. PAW PAW
CONTINUED WITH ITS POOR DEFENSIVE SHOWING BUT NEVER
SAID DIE. AS SO MANY OF OUR GAMES HAVE THIS YEAR IT
CAME DOWN TO THE LAST PITCH WITH SOMONAUK COMING OUT
ON TOP.

SIEMERS PITCHED A GREAT GAME WITH LITTLE GOING RIGHT
BEHIND HIM. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE 6TH INNING PAW
PAW COULD NOT KEEP #9 ADAM AND #23 MITCHELL FROM
SCORING POSTING ALL FOUR OF SOMONAUKS RUNS. THE REAL
STORY OF THEIR VICTORY CAME FROM THE STELLAR
PERFORMANCE OF THEIR SHORTSTOP. I THINK THAT WAS #20
AUSTIN, BUT COULD OF BEEN #9 ADAM, SORRY I'M NOT SURE.
THE SHORTSTOP WAS A VACUUM ALL DAY WITH ZERO ERRORS
TO THE POSITION, 5 PUT OUTS. AND LETS NOT FORGET THE
CENTER FIELDERS CATCH OFF WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A
DOUBLE FOR PENMAN, NICE CATCH BUD.

ONCE THE THIRD INNING ROLLED AROUND PAW PAWs DEFENSE
FINALLY CAME TO LIFE AND OUR PITCHING DID NOT HAVE TO
RELY ON STRIKEOUTS TO GET OFF THE FIELD. SIEMERS DID
TALLY 12 STRIKEOUTS IN 5 INNINGS PITCHED, ONE FROM
WILEY. PAW PAW HAD RBIs FROM PRENTICE, PENMAN AND
WILEY. LEAVING MEN ON SECOND AND THIRD IN THE FORTH
AND THIRD BASE IN THE 6TH. SOMONAUK LEFT NOBODY ON
BASE.

AS MUCH AS I HATE, TRULY HATE TO LOOSE, SOMONAUK IS A
WELL COACHED TEAM WITH LIKABLE PLAYERS, WE WISH THEM
WELL IN THE PLAYOFFS.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Score Plano- 12, Harding - 11; Pitchers Plano- #21 Craig -1 inning, Harding- # 41 Justin - 1 inning. Plano #2 and Harding finished their May 25th game that was suspended because of darkness with the score tied 10-10. The 8th inning was just as exciting as the previous 7. Harding scored 1 run in the top of the 8th and Plano came back with 2 in the bottom of the 8th for the win.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Score: Plano- 17, Harding- 12 ; Pitchers: Plano- #21 Craig- 2 innings, #12 Corey- 4 innings, # 53 Kevin- 1 inning ; Harding- # 36 Zach- 3 innings, #15 Garrett- 3 innings. The game was well played by both teams. Key hits by Plano were by # 2 Alex,# 10 John,# 21 Craig,# 12 Corey, # 8 Elijah, # 22 Wes, # 7 Tyler, # 31 Sam, # 8 Tyler and # 53 Kevin. Plano had a total team effort against a very good Harding team.

Highlights
ANOTHER INCREDIBLE GAME. LELAND PLAYED LIKE CHAMPS
BUT PAW PAW WAS ABLE TO PULL IT OUT IN THE BOTTOM OF
THE FIFTH WITH LILJA AND WILEY STEALING HOME ON THE
SAME PITCH, AS LELAND'S COACH SAID, "YOU WIN SOME THAT
WAY AND YOU LOOSE SOME THAT WAY." I WISH I COULD SAY
I WOULD TAKE IT THAT WELL. LELAND IS A WELL COACHED,
HARD RUNNING DEFENSIVE TEAM.

LELAND COMBINED FOR 9 STRIKEOUTS WITH TOO MANY
DEFENSIVE PLAYS TO MENTION. IT WAS A GREAT GAME TO
WATCH FOR THOSE WHO KNOW BASEBALL.

WILEY CONTINUED HIS IMPRESSIVE YEAR WITH 16
STRIKEOUTS, LELAND BATTLING HIM DEEP IN THE COUNT
MOST. AFTER GIVING OFF A LEAD OFF SINGLE TO BRODY IN
THE TOP OF THE SIXTH, BRODY WAS ABLE TO STEAL 2ND AND
3RD, ONLY TO WATCH WILEY STRIKE OUT THE NEXT THREE
BATTERS WILEY FACED. MR. WILEY HAS NO CLUE WHAT THE
WORDS GIVE UP MEAN.

THERE IS NO DOUBT LELAND WILL GO FAR IN THE PLAYOFFS
AND WE WISH THEM WELL. WE WOULD LOVE A REMATCH OF OUR
2005 FARM LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP WHERE LELAND WAS OUR
ONLY LOSS OF THE YEAR. THEY WERE THEN AND ARE NOW A
CLASS ACT.

Thursday, June 14

Indian Creek 5

Serena 2

IC Pitcher Jake B. - 6 innings

Highlights

After a few extra and very dedicated practices and a couple motivational speeches by the coaches, IC came to play tonight. With Jake taking the mound after having a rough time with his last performance, he found his zone and pitched a complete game. He dominated the strike zone with 13 strike outs and only 7 walks. He only allowed 1 hit all game, which was a towering fly ball in the gap. IC knew that pitching alone would not earn them a win over Serena’s very talented team and stellar infield, so they rallied together to earn all 5 of their runs in the 4 th inning. Noah started it off with a walk, followed by Christian’s double, Jake and Logan added a single each, and John rounded it off with another walk. The first 5 had reached in the inning before 3 straight pitches sat Tyler back down. Anthony then decided that we weren’t done yet and towered another double into the gap. Just as it looked like we were about to get a couple more, Serena stopped us cold with an awesome show of defense and turned a double play to get out of the inning. After that Jake said thanks for the lead and he took over from there. We asked him to step up and step up he did. Take nothing away from Serena, they played an awesome game and are a team to be reckoned with. They are very well coached and play with a lot of heart and sportsmanship. Good job to both teams.

HighlightsThis was a game filled with good pitching, good fielding and kids hitting and making
good contact with the ball on both sides.Nice game to watch. First inning both teams came out hitting
and put 3 each on the board. Earlville had all 3 parts of the lineup contributing at some point.
The top got it started, the middle did some things in the middle innings to contribute and the
later part of the lineup got on base towards the end of the game to keep the innings alive. After a
tough first inning, Kyle Hatton settled down and pitched a nice game. Chase Johnson came in and
pitched a solid 3 to end the game. Defense played very well and made the plays to shut down a
Indian Creek team that never gave us a easy out. Jake (IC), hit a home run that would have been out in
most parks. We wish Indian Creek all the best throughout the rest of the year. Jamie Deutsch does
a remarkable job teaching his kids baseball technique and good sportsmanship. I enjoy coaching against
him and playing his teams. There is a mutual respect there that is nice to be apart of.

but could not sustain a lead. Paw Paw struggled to get on base but broke through
in the fourth to take the lead and then continued to build on it.Earlville just could
not answer.Lilja pitched a very consistent ballgame, going the whole way.
Earlville is beginning to be more consistent in their play and hopefully can make some
noise towards the end of the year. Paw Paw has a nice team and should be around until
the end. Thanks John for a nice night of ball and good luck the rest of the way.

Highlights

Regardless of win or loss, this ended up to be a fun and exciting night at the ball park. IC came out strong to score 3 in the first only to have Earlville answer with 3 of their own. The 2 nd inning was 3 up and 3 down for IC while Earlville answered with 1 more run. IC came back to life in the 3 rd with 2 more runs, including a towering over the fence home run by Big Jake followed up by a triple off the bat of Logan and a run scored just after. With those 2 runs, we were looking good, until a couple walks in each of the last 2 innings were the dagger in the back. Earlville stayed strong and were hard to get out. They scored a few more and shut us down with some very strong pitching. It ended up being a good game played by all and congratulations to Earlville for earning the win. They are a very well coached team and play with pride and superb sportsmanship. Thanks for the fun and exciting game.

Highlights
YET ANOTHER GREAT GAME DOWN TO THE LAST PITCH, THIS
TIME SERENA CAME OUT ON TOP. PITCHING WAS ONCE AGAIN
A BIG PART OF THE GAME. SERENA COMBINED FOR 9
STRIKEOUTS AND PAW PAW HAD 12 IN FIVE INNINGS.

WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A GREAT PLAY AT HOME IN THE
THIRD AND THE FIFTH INNING PAW PAW COULD NOT KEEP
SERENAS LEAD OFF MAN FOR THE INNING FROM SCORING.

BUT THE PLAY OF THE GAME CAME FROM SERENA'S MR. ROGERS
WHO WAS NOT GOING TO LET PAW PAW WIN IN HIS
NEIGHBORHOOD. IN THE FIFTH, WITH RUNNERS ON FIRST AND
THIRD SAFRANEK CAME TO THE PLATE, DOWN BY ONE A BASE
HIT TIES THE GAME. ROGERS DEALS FROM THE MOUND AND
SAFRANEK GREASES ONE UP THE MIDDLE, A SURE BASE HIT
EXCEPT FOR A PLAY THAT LOOKED LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF
THE MATRIX, ROGERS LEANS BACK LIMBO STYLE AND CATCHES
JUST ENOUGH OF THE BALL TO STOP IT THEN GETS UP AND
THROWS OUT SAFRANEK AT 1ST. END OF INNING.

WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO PLAY TWO EXCEPTIONAL GAMES
WITH SERENA, A CLASS ACT AND A WELL COACHED TEAM. WE
WISH THEM LUCK IN THE PALYOFFS.

The score does not represent this game. Somonauk #3 played excellent ball and the score would have been tight if not for the 2nd inning. During the 2nd inning Plano #3 could do no wrong and Somonauk could not catch a break. All teams experience an inning like this at some point and the entire Somonauk team handled it like true sportsmen. They kept their heads up even after multiple bad bounces and crazy plays. Adam pitched a nice game and he should remember that in another game, the exact same pitches would result in a normal inning. Both teams played a great game. Somonauk is a quality team with friendly coaches and players. Thanks!

PAW PAW - 10
INDIAN CREEK - 2

PITCHERS:

PAW PAW - SIEMERS 6
INDIAN CREEK - HOLM 4, DEUTSCH C. 2

Highlights

INDIAN CREEK'S PITCHING HAS IMPROVED GREATLY SINCE OUR
LAST MEETING ALONG WITH AN IMPROVED DEFENSE. THE
SCORE DOES NOT REFLECT THE PLAY BY INDIAN CREEK.

PITCHING AND AN ERRORLESS DEFENSE WAS THE NAME OF THE
GAME FOR PAW PAW. COACHES NOTE: IN THE PAST 25 YEARS
I CAN COUNT THE NUMBERS OF WINS I'VE HAD AT LEE ON ONE
HAND, ACTUALLY ONE FINGER PRIOR TO THIS EVENING. BACK
WHEN I WAS A YOUNG MAN COACHING AGAINST LEON OLSEN
WITH HIS POWERHOUSE TEAMS FROM LEE, I LEARNED HOW
IMPORTANT TEACHING FUNDIMENTALS AND SPORTSMANSHIP WAS.
I ASKED MY TEAM TO MAKE MY POSSIBLY LAST APPEARENCE
IN LEE A MEMORABLE ONE AND THEY CAME THROUGH WITH A
SPOTLESS EFFORT. THE INDIAN CREEK COACHES AND TEAM
PERFORMED LIKE MR. OLSEN AND THE LEE TEAMS OF THE
PAST, THEIR YOUNG TEAM WILL BE A FORCE TO BE RECONED
WITH IN THE NEAR FUTURE, I THANK THEM FOR THIER SPIRIT
AND OBVIOUS LOVE OF THE GAME.

SIEMERS PITCHED A GREAT GAME WITH HIS NORMAL
CONSISTANCY AND 11 STRIKEOUTS, THIS COMBINED WITH ONE
OF THE FEW ERROR FREE DEFENSIVE GAMES I'VE EVER SEEN
LED PAW PAW TO VICTORY. INDIAN CREEK TOOK A 1-1 TIE
INTO THE FIFTH INNING WHEN PAW PAWS BATS WOKE UP.

THE PLAY OF THE GAME ALTHOUGH NOT GAME CHANGING WAS
FROM MCCANNON. TRYING TO SCORE FROM FIRST ON A DOUBLE
BY LILJA HE WAS INCHES FROM BEING PUT OUT FROM A
WONDERFUL CUTOFF TO CATCHER THROW WHEN SOMEHOW HE WENT
FROM FULL BORE TO STOP JUST PRIOR TO BEING TAGGED. A
PICKLE ENSUED WHICH LEFT SHANE SAFE AT THIRD, GOD I
WISH I HAD THAT ONE ON TAPE. IC PLAYED IT WELL BUT
MCCANNON WILLED HIMSELF SAFE.

WE WISH INDIAN CREEK WELL FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR AND
IN THE FUTURE.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

PAW PAW - 2
SERENA - 1

PITCHERS:

PAW PAW - WILEY 6
SERENA - GARZANELLI 6
Highlights
A PITCHING AND DEFENSIVE DUAL, IT WAS TRULY A GREAT
GAME. SERENA IS A WELL COACHED CLASS ACT. THEY BEG
YOU TO BRING IT TO THEM AND LET THE PLAY ON THE FIELD
DECIDE THE OUTCOME.

PAW PAW WAS SCORELESS TILL THE LAST PITCH OF THE GAME
WHEN PRENTICE GOT TO LIVE OUT THE DREAM. YOU KNOW THE
ONE... THREE SECONDS LEFT, ONE POINT DOWN, PRENTICE
HAS THE BALL, HE SHOOTS 3 2 1... EXCEPT THIS TIME IT
WAS BASEBALL.

GARZANELLI DID EVERYTHING A PITCHER COULD DO TO WIN A
GAME, STELLAR PITCHING, 7 STRIKEOUTS AND GREAT DEFENSE
BUT WITH THREE OUTS TO GO AND PAW PAWS 3,4 AND 5
BATTERS TO FACE THE GAME WENT THE TO THE BULLDOGS.
GARZANELLI WALKED THE FIRST BATTER WITH THE UMPIRE
CALLING A DECIDEDLY TIGHT STRIKE ZONE FOR THE ENTIRE
GAME. WILEY THEN HIT A SHOT WHICH WAS MISPLAYED, NOT
AN ERROR SO MUCH AS A HARD HIT WHICH JUST WAS NOT
HANDLED, AND THEN A MISS THROW WHICH ENDED WITH LILJA
ON THIRD WILEY ON FIRST. PRENTICE STEPS INTO THE LEFT
BOX AFTER STRIKING OUT HIS FIRST TWO AT BATS.
GARZANELLI DELIVERED A STRIKE WHICH PRENTICE ONCE
AGAIN WHIFFED AT, BRING UP MEMORIES OF "THE MIGHTY
CASEY AT THE BAT". CONTACT WAS ALL THAT WAS NEEDED TO
TIE THE GAME AND CONTACT WAS MADE ON THE NEXT PITCH,
SENDING A SHOT OVER THE CENTERFIELDERS HEAD AND
SCORING THE WINNING TWO RUNS.

WILEY PITCHED ANOTHER LIGHTS OUT GAME ALLOWING ONLY
ONE EARNED RUN IN THE FIRST. 12 STRIKEOUTS, GREAT
DEFENSE AND SCORING THE WINNING RUN ADD UP TO ANOTHER
ALL STAR PERFORMANCE. GREAT PLAYS ACROSS THE BOARD
WITH A HIGHLIGHT ONE HOPPER TO LILJA AT THIRD FOR A
5-3 PUT OUT HELPED SEAL THE DEAL.

AFTER THE HANDS WERE SHOOK AND GOOD GAMES DELIVERED BY
ALL GARZANELLI DID SOMETHING WHICH I WILL LITERALLY
TAKE TO MY GRAVE. HE WALKED UP TO PRENTICE WITH A
SMILE ON HIS FACE AND HANDED HIM THE GAME BALL SAYING
"GOOD HIT" AND THEN LEFT TO BE WITH HIS TEAM. IT WAS
THE SINGLE MOST IMPRESSIVE SHOW OF SPORTSMANSHIP,
AFTER WHAT HAD TO BE DEVASTATING LOSS, I HAVE EVER
SEEN. WE SHOULD ALL LEARN FROM HIS EXAMPLE.

Indian Creek 2

Paw Paw 10

Highlights

This was a defensive dual and the score was tied 1-1 with top notch pitching through 4 innings. Then Paw Paw showed why they are such a good team by bringing their bats out. They took a couple walks and then started hitting every pitch and IC became flustered. Paw Paw is a very well coached team and they bring excellent skill and sportsmanship to the field. Congrats to them.

IC Pitchers:

Christian D. 3 innings

Noah H. 2 innings

Highlights

IC started the game off by loading the bases in the first inning only to be held to 1 run by a stellar Leland defense. Leland has a very good team and is solid all the way around. They hit the ball when they needed to and played exceptional defense and pitched well the entire game. IC’s young team is getting better and playing with a lot of heart this year. As a coach, I could not ask for anything more. Thanks for a good game Leland.

The game between Harding and Malta to be played Saturday, June 2 nd , was played Friday, June 1 st at Harding. Malta did not have enough kids so it was a forfeit. However, they wanted to play ball so we gave them a few of our kids. The boys had a good time playing baseball.  Thanks for a fun evening Malta .

PAW PAW - 3
PLANO 2 - 2

PITCHERS:
PAW PAW - WILEY 6
PLANO 2 - #21 CRAIG 4, #12 CORY 1
Highlights
ALTHOUGH THE INFIELD WAS A SWAMP THE WEATHER HELD OFF
AND A GREAT GAME WAS PLAYED BY BOTH TEAMS.

PITCHING WAS THE NAME OF THE GAME WITH ALL THREE
PITCHERS THROWING WELL. WILEY PITCHED A WONDERFUL
COMPLETE GAME ADDING 13 STRIKEOUTS TO HIS TOTAL. WHILE
PLANO'S STELLAR DEFENSE KEPT IT CLOSE, #8 ELIJAH HAS A
CAREER AHEAD OF HIM ON THE HOT CORNER. TWO GREAT PUT
OUTS 5-4 KEPT PAW PAW SCORELESS IN THE 3RD.

BUT I HAVE A BASEBALL STORY TO TELL. PAW PAW PLAYED
WITH 8 PLAYERS DUE TO AN INJURY AND A MISSING CATCHER.
DODARO THE SECOND STRING CATCHER WAS ASKED TO STEP
UP, AND STEP UP HE DID. JUST PRIOR TO THE OPENING
PITCH IT LOOKED AS THOUGH PLANO HAD MADE THE TRIP TO
PAW PAW FOR A FORFEIT. DODARO TOOK A SHOT TO THE
MOUTH FROM A THROWN BALL HARD ENOUGH TO STICK HIS LIP
TO HIS BRACES. WITH BLOOD FLOWING DOWN HIS CHIN I WAS
ABLE TO DETACH HIS LIP FROM HIS BRACES, DODARO THEN
SPIT A MOUTHFUL OF BLOOD TO THE GROUND, LOOKED UP AT
ME AND SAID, "READY TO GO COACH". AND PEOPLE ASK ME
WHY I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 25 YEARS. THIS WAS
FOLLOWED BY KASPER IN RIGHT FIELD, ONE OF TWO
OUTFIELDERS, MAKING THE TWO PLAYS ASKED OF HIM
PERFECTLY. BASEBALL IS TRULY A TEAM SPORT, A GAME OF
INCHES WITH CLOSE CALLS AND WHERE ON ANY GIVEN DAY
SECOND STRINGERS CAN BE SUPER STARS. CONGRATS TO NIC
AND MATHEW AND GOOD LUCK TO PLANO 2 THE REST OF THE
YEAR.

A collision in left center field injures #1 Jesse Troutman in the second inning. He had just made a great catch 2 batters earlier. This forced Hinckley to play with only 8 players. This game would have been much closer otherwise. We all hope Jesse is ok.

PAW PAW - 0
PLANO 3 - 8

PITCHERS:
PAW PAW - SIEMERS 5
PLANO 3 - RILANDO 3, CODY 3
Highlights
PLANO BROUGHT THE BATS AND PAW APW FORGOT THEY WERE
PLAYING BASEBALL TILL THE THIRD INNING.

PLANO HIT THE BALL HARD ALL NIGHT BUT PAW PAW COULD
NOT GET A HANDLE ON THINGS IN THE FIRST TWO INNINGS.
MULTIPLE ERRORS ALLOWED PLANO TO SCORE 7 RUNS IN TWO
INNINGS OF PLAY. AFTER STRIKING OUT IN THE FIRST
ANTHONY # 81 HIT A TOWERING SHOT WHICH HIT AT THE BASE
OF THE FENCE JUST MISSING A HOME RUN. PLANO IS A HARD
RUNNING WELL COACHED TEAM WHO MADE THE PLAYS WHEN THEY
WERE GIVEN THE BALL TO PLAY WITH.

PAW PAW STARTED THE GAME WITH BASES LOADED AND NO ONE
OUT ONLY TO WATCH THEIR 4,5 AND 6 HITTERS K K K THEIR
WAY OUT OF THE INNING. SIEMERS PITCHED A GOOD GAME
WITH LITTLE DEFENSIVE SUPPORT UNTIL THE THIRD INNING
WHEN THE BULLDOGS BROKE OUT OF THEIR FOG. AFTER
GIVING UP A BASE HIT/HOME RUN AND A BASE HIT WHICH
ENDED UP ON THIRD WITH HARD RUNNING AND A K FROM
PLANO'S THIRD MAN UP THE PLATE WAS SET FOR THE FIRST
OF TWO PAW PAW DOUBLE PLAYS AND BASEBALL THE WAY THE
BULLDOGS KNOW HOW TO PLAY. DON HITS TO THIRD, DAVIS
RUNS HOME, LILJA TO SAFRANEK AND DAVIS IS THROWN OUT,
SAFRANEK THROWS TO PRNTICE WHO CATCHES DON ROUNDING
FIRST TO SECOND, PRENTICE RUNS DON TO SECOND WHERE HE
IS THROWN OUT, 5-2-3-4 DOUBLE PLAY ENDING THE THIRD.
PAW PAW HELD PLANO SCORELESS THE NEXT TWO WITH A
SECOND DOUBLE PLAY IN THE 6TH, A LINER TO PRENTICE WHO
THEN TAGGED RANDALL OFF FIRST.

UNFORTUNATELY THE BATS NEVER REALLY CAME TO LIFE FOR
PAW PAW. CODY AND RILANDO BROUGHT IT TO PAW PAW AND
THE BULLDOGS COULD NOT DELIVER, BEING SHUT OUT FOR THE
FIRST TIME THIS YEAR. CONGRATS TO PLANOS HURLERS.
MCCANNON WAS ON THE BALL ALL NIGHT AND DODARO GREASED
THE BALL HIS LAST AT BAT. WE LOOK FORWARD TO OUR NEXT
MEETING.

Highlights

Both teams played a great game. Indian Creek has improved nicely this season. Indian Creek had two especially memorable plays...a long fly ball caught in deep center and also a double play starting with the shortstop catching a blistering line drive. Indian Creek had a nice rally in the 5th inning but came up just short. Jamie is an extremely nice coach and the boys reflect his positive attitude. They never gave up and were consistently polite. Thanks for a pleasant, wholesome evening

Highlights

The Plano team is a very well coached and very aggressive and good hitting ball team. It was a fun game to play and Plano is very deserving of the win. After a slow start, IC kept their heads up and gave Plano a good run in the 5th inning. Good job to both teams.

PAW PAW - LILJA 4, WILEY 1

Highlights
MAKE NO MISTAKE, INDIAN CREEK PLAYS A MUCH BETTER GAME
THAN THEIR RECORD WOULD INDICATE. THEY HIT THE BALL
HARD, RUN THE BASES WITH AUTHORITY AND ARE WELL
COACHED.

PAW PAW BROUGHT THEIR BATS TONIGHT WITH THE MEAT OF
THEIR ORDER GOING 14 FOR 17, SIEMERS 3-4, LILJA 4-4,
WILEY 3-4 AND SAFRANEK 3-4. ONE GREAT PLAY THAT
WASN'T, A SHOT TO THIRD BASE PUT WILEY ON HIS KNEES,
FROM HIS KNEES HE FIRED A SHOT TO A COMPLETELY
STRETCHED OUT PRENTICE WHO SNAGGED THE BALL NEARLY
LAYING ON THE GROUND ONLY TO BE BEATEN BY A SPEEDY
INDIAN CREEK RUNNER. SAFE AT FIRST BUT BURNED IN MY
MEMORY FOREVER.

LILJA PITCHED A GREAT GAME BATTLING THE STOMACH FLU
AND WILEYS ONE INNING WAS ON TARGET.

INDIAN CREEK CONTINUED TO BATTLE BACK EACH INNING WITH
HOLM, BJORNABY AND #2 DEUTSCH ALL GOING 2-3. WITH A
LINEUP THAT DOESN'T QUIT RUNS WERE SCORED BY 8 OF
THEIR TEN BATTERS. INDIAN CREEKS PITCHERS THREW
STRIKES BUT PAW PAW WAS ABLE TO HIT THEM WHEN THEY
WERE THERE.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO OUR NEXT MEETING IN SHABBONA, WHERE
HOPEFULLY THE WEATHER WILL TREAT US BETTER.

In an 8 inning hearbreaker for Somonauk #3, Leland rallied with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score at 5. Then after Som #3 took a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh, Leland again scored in the bottom of the frame to even it again at 6!!!! No scoring in the 8th for Som #3 and with two out and a man on third in the bottom of the 8th, Johnson provided the game winning hit for Leland to make the final 7-6 in 8 innings!!!
Pitchers
Mitchell Kessler pitched 6 innings for Som #3, while Joey Palasiewicz tossed 2!!!! Thanks to coach Kreiter for one heck of a competitive ballgame. His boys are VERY well coached and sportsmanlike!!!! Some high school needs to hire this guy for their varsity head man in 2008!!!! Then I can write about him beating someone else other than my team!!!

Rilando Nunez pitched 3 innings for Plano #3

Pitchers
Mason pitched 6 innings for Serena

Highlights
The game was extremely well played by Serena. We went into the 6th inning tied 6-6. Plano #3 managed two runs and then gave Serena their chance at the bottom of the 6th. Plano #3 walked Serena's first batter and then the second batter hit to the crossing 3rd basemen, Abe Carreon. Abe flipped the ball to Collin Seyller at 2nd for the out and then Collin fired the ball to 1st. His throw was in the dirt, but Davis Appel stretched flat and dug the throw out for Plano #3's first legitimate double play of the season! Serena wasn't able to rally with two outs and came up just short. Chris Gunier is a true gentleman. Everybody, me included (well maybe not Vern from Harding - he's already as nice as they come), can learn a thing or two about being a nice guy from watching Chris.  The pressure got to me once or twice, but Chris never wavered. Thanks again, Chris!

Harding 4

Paw Paw 9

Garrett Lappe had Harding’s first out of the park home run for this year!!! Harding got the bats going again in the 6 th inning, but it wasn’t quite enough. Paw Paw had their bats going strong. Good job Paw Paw, thanks for a good game.
