Plano 7, Earlville/Leland 1

At Earlville, the Lady Reapers pushed their record over the .500 mark at 4-3-1 with a nonconference road victory over the Lady Raiders.

Christina Narciso had three hits and three RBI to lead the Plano offense. Roxy Mosca added two hits, two RBI and scored two runs. Haley Secor allowed four hits, while striking out eight and walking three to record the win in the circle.

Seneca 3, Newark 2

At Newark, the Lady Irish improved to 3-4 on the season after nonconference road victory over the Lady Norseman.

Seneca scored all three of its runs in the top of the first inning on a three-run homer by Malia Cole, while Newark tallied a run each in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings.

"We hit the ball well, and it was nice for our bats to finally wake-up," Lady Irish coach Dan Stecken said. "We played well, but we are still pretty rusty, we need a lot more swings and a lot more big hits. We had a great practice yeasterday (Wednesday), and the the girls got in the box early and ripped the ball. Amy Gumm hit the ball hard every time up."

"We left seven runner in scoring position, and we could not come up with a big hit, and that was the difference," Lady Norseman coach Paul Waitkoss said. "One hit in clutch situations and we win. Seneca's pitcher (Vanessa Osborne) did really well."

Osborne wne the distance in the circle to rcord the win, allowing no earned runs on five hits, while striking out nine and walking two. At the plate, she went 3-for-4. Gumm added two hits, including a double. Cole had a three-run homer.

Seven diffferent Newark players had one hit.

Rosary 2, Sandwich 1 (10 inn)

At Aurora, the Lady Indians dropped a nonconference contest to Rosary in extra innings.

Both teams tallied a run each in the first innings, before Rosary pushed across the game-winner in the bottom of th 10th.

"This was the best game my team has played in the three years I have coached," Sandwich coach Beth Behringer said. "I am so proud of how well Jami (Swenson) pitched. We need to keep improving with this big step. We are going to continue to work on hitting, but still work on keeping our defense solid."

Swenson pitched all 10 innings, allowing three hits, to go along with seven strikeouts and three walks, and suffered the loss. She also led the Lady Indians' offense with two hits.

 

Marquette 2, Serena 1

At June Gross Field in Ottawa, the Lady Crusaders picked up a nonconference victory over the Lady Huskers.

Katelyn McNamara drove in Kelsey MacFarlane with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to win it for Marquette.

Eryn Dougherty only allowed two hits to notch the victory in the circle. Mariclaire McConnaughhay had two hits to lead the Lady Cru offense.

Indian Creek 3, Paw Paw 1

At Paw Paw, the Lady Timberwolves held on for a Little Ten Conference victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

The contest was tied at 1-1 through six innings, before IC plated two runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull out the win.

"Paw Paw gave us a run for our money,' Lady T-Wolves coach Abby Tanner said. "We played ok, but I know we can play better. Brittney Bock, Jenna Holm and Ryane Ottengheime held up our offense today. Mel Sebastiano went distance in the circle and helped pull out the win."

"We just need to hit better," Paw Paw coach Corey Iversen said. "We're getting good pitching and playing good defense."

Sebastiano allowed three hits and struck out 18 to notch the victory. Ottengheime doubled to lead to the IC offense.

Alicia Slaughterback, losing pitcher Brooke Iversen (six hits, six strikeouts) and Jessica Lilja all singled to account for the three Lady Bulldog (4-5, 0-3) hits.
