Coal City 11, Plano 0 (5 innings)

Nate Chapman pitched five strong innings for the Coalers on Tuesday in the run-rule shortened game. He allowed four hits and walked three while striking out two.

Offensively for Coal City, Dominic Durando, Dylan Hakey and Andy Darling each had a single, double and two runs scored.


Lisle 5, Westmont 0
Ryan VanVolkenburg threw a one-hitter, and Kevin Coppin was 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs for Lisle (23-4, 9-0).

Sandwich 11, Seneca 6
At Seneca, Matt Wilson was 2-for-4 with a double and four runs batted in for Seneca (7-19, 2-6). Brandon Pasdertz had two hits and two RBI and Brian Bergeson was 2-for-4 with a double.
Brent Bergeson took the pitching loss, going four innings and giving up seven runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

Reed Custer 3, Manteno 13

Manteno jumps on Reed Custer HS early and coasts to 13-3 win

Manteno refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against Reed Custer at home on Tuesday, recording a 13-3 victory. The win puts Manteno at 23-2 overall and 7-2 in the Interstate 8 Conference.

With seven runs in the first three innings, the Panthers left no doubt about the eventual outcome. An RBI double by 1B Nick Kirchschlager in the second inning supplied the early offense for Manteno.

CF J.J. Witherow racked up five RBIs on two hits, singling in the third and fifth innings.

Nate Page (1-0) got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over 3 1/3 innings. The Manteno pitcher struck out five, walked five and surrendered no hits. RF Joey DiLeo went to the mound in relief, allowing only two hits and one walk, striking out two Reed-Custer batters.

Manteno pounded Reed Custer pitching, as six hitters combined for 11 of 13 Panther hits, 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored. Manteno tacked on six runs in the third inning. Second baseman Mark Reardanz's single got things going, plating DiLeo. That was followed up by 3B Billy Liss's triple, plating C Ryan Sample and Reardanz.

Manteno added five more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Witherow singled, scoring SS Kevin Sloat and Kirchschlager to start the inning. That was followed up by Sample's three-run blast, plating LF Adam Schaeffer and Witherow. With bases loaded, Reed-Custer walked in the winning run to give the Panthers the win in six innings.

The Panthers have the day off tomorrow and travel to Sandwich on Thursday for an Interstate 8 conference cross-over contest.

Dwight 2, Peotone 7

The Dwight Trojans lost 7-2 to the Peotone Blue Devils on Tuesday night. Trojan pitcher Jake Thomas (1-7) took the loss going all 7 innings giving up 6 earned runs and 10 hits, striking out 9 and walking 2. The Blue Devils used a 6-run and a 7 hit 6th inning to grab the lead and control the game. Troy Hogan had 2 hits for the Trojans and Jake Wardell had 2 rbi single in the 6th for Dwight's only 2 runs. The Trojans are 10-11 overall and 2-7 in the I-8.
