Manteno offense too much for Seneca HS in 16-6 victory

Manteno shut the door early on Seneca HS, capturing a 16-6 victory on Friday at Manteno HS.

Nine runs in the first three innings allowed Manteno (18-1, 3-1) to put the game away early.

An RBI double by Mark Reardanz, an RBI single by SS Kevin Sloat, a passed ball, and an RBI single by 1B Derrick Hosselton in the first inning and an error, a sacrifice fly by SS Billy Liss, and a two-run error during the second inning supplied the early offense for Manteno.

Sloat went a perfect 4-4 at the plate for Manteno, adding 3 runs and 2 RBI.

One run in the top of the third helped Seneca close its deficit to 8-2. An RBI single by Daniel Hamilton fueled Seneca's comeback. Finally, Sloat got Brandon Pasdertz to ground out to end the threat.

It didn't take long for Manteno to answer as it scored one run of its own in the third. Manteno scored on an RBI single by catcher Ryan Sample.

Seneca mounted a rally effort in the top of the sixth with a two run homer from Brian Bergeson, but the effort was short lived. Manteno quickly matched Seneca’s strong inning with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to close out the game early. Manteno scored on an RBI single by DH C.J. Irvin, an RBI single by LF Adam Schaeffer, a two-run single by 2B Joey DiLeo, two wild pitches, and an RBI single by Sloat.

Reardanz (6-0) got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over 2 innings. The Manteno pitcher struck out two, walked none and surrendered one hit.

The win puts Manteno at 18-1 overall and 3-1 in the Interstate 8 conference. They face Peotone at home on Monday.
