Manteno Upends Dwight 18-7 in Five Innings

Two big innings for the Manteno Panthers allowed them to walk away with an 18-7 victory over the Dwight Trojans in five innings on the road.

Manteno (16-1, 2-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning but left the bases loaded. The Panthers put up nine runs in the third inning. Seven of those runs came with two outs on a series of hits and Dwight errors after Dwight turned a double play. The fourth inning was equally productive for the Panthers as they plated another seven runs but the Trojans answered in the bottom of the fourth with six of their own thanks mostly to the Panther's four errors in the inning. Manteno committed seven errors overall and Dwight six.

Catcher Ryan Sample and pitcher Mark Reardanz each went 3-4 at the plate, both contributing doubles. Shortstop Kevin Sloat went 2-4 with four RBI's. Outfielder Adam Schaeffer smacked a big triple to right center field to score two of his three RBI's.

Reardanz (5-0) picked up his first conference win on the mound for Manteno, giving up only one earned run, walking one and striking out two. Relief pitcher James Weltmeyer gave up only one hit, one walk and struck out two in two innings of work.

The Panthers are now 16-1 overall and 2-1 in the Interstate 8 conference. They face Watseka at home on Wednesday in a non-conference match-up.
