GAME #2

Game two at Plano

Genoa-Kingston 70, Indian Creek 64 double overtime

Unseeded Indian Creek nearly came away with a huge upset in the second game of the Christmas Classic at Plano.

Facing tournament two seed Genoa-Kingston, the Timberwolves rallied back from a 53-47 fourth quarter deficit to send the game into overtime tied at 56.

After the two clubs traded three buckets each, the contest moved into its second four minute extra session even at 62 apiece.

But the Cogs outscored the Timberwolves 8-2 from there, all on free throws, to thwart the upset bid with a 70-64 double overtime win.

Genoa-Kingston (8-3) was led in scoring by sophomore Scott Suchy with 30 points and senior Jimmy Lopez with 20.

Indian Creek was paced by senior Jake Swanson who also tallied 20 points.

“I thought we played really hard. We put ourselves in a position to win and to go into double overtime with the tournament’s second seed says a lot, especially since we played them a couple of weeks ago and lost big. Give our kids a lot of credit for showing up big today,” said Indian Creek head basketball coach Joe Piekarz.

Genoa-Kingston advances to Thursday’s 3:30 p.m. game against Hinckley-Big Rock, while Indian Creek will battle Newark at 9 a.m.
