Manteno 19, Wilmington 7 (6 innings)
Wilmington didn't put up much of a fight on Tuesday, as the
Manteno Panthers cruised to a blowout 19-7 conference win in six innings at
Wilmington.
Undefeated Manteno (10-0, 3-0) put up nine runs in the sixth inning on an
RBI single by pitcher Jack Liss, an RBI double by catcher Brock Crews, an
error, two hit batters, and a two-run double by third baseman Nick Kirchschlager.
Nichols racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Panthers including a solo
home run in the fourth.
Kirchschlager had the biggest day for the Panthers, going 3-5 at the plate
and driving in five runs.His performance included a three run homer in the
third inning.
Liss is now 4-0 with the win for Manteno. He allowed seven runs over five
innings. Liss struck out six, walked two and gave up seven hits.
The Panthers pounded Wilmington pitching, as seven hitters combined for 15
hits, 15 RBIs and 17 runs scored.
Manteno jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Adam Schaeffer's
double started things off and short stopKevin Sloat followed with his own
double, bringing home Schaeffer.
The lead stayed with the Panthers after the third inning, in which they scored
seven runs on an RBI double by Nichols, an error, and Kirchschlager's three-run
home run.
Manteno brought home one run in the fourth inning, and matched that run total
in the fifth.
The Panthers are on the road again Wednesday headed for a non-conference game
against Watseka.
