Reed-Custer 6, Wilmington 3

Comets Defeat Wildcats in Suspended Game
4/22/2014

The Reed-Custer Comets jumped on Wilmington pitcher, Al Zlomie for 6 runs in the first 2 innings and southpaw Comet pitcher, Brent Headrick made sure they were enough as the Comets defeated rival Wilmington by a 6-3 count.

The game was the resumption of Monday's game when the Wildcats jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. R-C was batting with one out in the bottom half of the frame when rain forced postponement.

When the game was resumed, the Comets roughed up Zlomie for 5 runs in the first and 1 run in the second. Zlomie found his rhythm and blanked the Comets the rest of the way. The damage was done, however, as Headrick limited Wilmington to 1 run the rest of the way. Headrick struck out 11 and walked only 1.

Jon Costain lead the Comet attack with a perfect 3-3 day at the plate. Jordan Walden had 2 hits, including a double and 2 RBI.

Dexter Fierro had 2 hits for Wilmington.

R-C is 12-6 overall and 3-1 in the I-8.
