Comets Show Their Rust In 10-0 Loss

The Reed-Custer Comet diamondmen had the deck stacked against them. Due to poor weather conditions in northern Illinois, the Comets had not had a practice on a baseball diamond before they kicked off their season. Unfortunately, it showed.
R-C committed 6 errors, enroute to a 10-0 white washing at the hands of Granite City at Rent One Ballpark in Marion. The game was the first of 5 games the Comets will play on their spring trip to southern Illinois and Union City, TN.

The wheels fell off for the Comets in a 7 run fifth inning, enabling the Warriors to win the game by the ten run rule.

Jon Costain and Josh Bull each had 2 hits, while Jordan Colwell added a single.

Brent Headrick pitched well, despite taking the loss. The big lefty tossed two innings, giving up 1 unearned run, while striking out 4 and walking 0. He did not give up a hit.

All Comet pitchers were under a strict pitch count in the early part of the season.

Jordan Walden, Travis Schoonover and Eddie Wilkins each made an appearance on the mound and looked good at times, despite the leaky Comet defense.
